Non-profit supported agencies are important partners of United Way in working for community change. We support nonprofits’ work with resources including volunteers, advocacy and funding.

1. Education – by 2020:
a. 100% of children in San Juan County will be ready for kindergarten.
b. 100% of middle school students in San Juan County will demonstrate proficiency in life skills.
c. 100% of youth in San Juan County will have received the skills and information to enable them to determine a successful career.
2. Income Stability – by 2020
a. 75% of individuals in San Juan County will demonstrate proficiency in personal financial management.
b. 90% of households will obtain the education needed for living wage employment.
c. 90% of households will obtain adequate housing.
3. Health – by 2020
a. 100% of children 0 to 5 will have adequate nutrition and healthcare year-round.
b. 100% of San Juan County households will have the knowledge of tools regarding Adverse Childhood Experiences.
c. 90% of San Juan County residents will report a usual place for health care.
d. 80% of seniors will feel comfortable with their level of independence.
To be eligible for funding by United Way of San Juan County, agencies must meet ALL of the following criteria:
United Way of San Juan County grant applications become available in September. They are due in November, and allocations are made in late January of the New Year. Specific dates are published on the grant application.
Applications are carefully reviewed by the allocations committee. The committee considers the need for the program in its community, fair funding between islands, the program’s measured results and track record, and the program’s financial responsibility and transparency.

The due date for grant applications is November 21st, 2016 . All applications must be in our office OR postmarked by this date. Late applications will not be considered, and you may submit your application as early as you like.
Applications are reviewed by the allocations committee in December, and allocations are made after the first of the year. Award letters will be issued in January. All applicants will be notified as to whether they receive an award.
