Friday Harbor Elementary School and the After School Study Club would like to thank United Way of San Juan County for helping to fund this important program in our school.

United Way generously has funded After School Study Club for several years.

After School Study Club is held three days per week for students in grades 3 through 5. Students who attend study club receive assistance with their homework from study club staff, as well as from teachers and high school student volunteers. Study Club is funded largely by United Way.

Also, this year the Lions Club has helped to fund the program. These funds pay for two supportive San Juan Island School District para-educators who staff study club, and for a healthy snack that is given to students at the beginning of each session.

Thanks to United Way, homework is...

The San Juan Island Family Resource Center has greatly benefited from the financial support of United Way of San Juan County.

Through United Way, we are able to provide programs and services that make a positive, everyday difference for children and families in our community.

Friday Harbor has excellent schools where our children can grow, learn and succeed. But sometimes families face challenges that make it difficult for kids to fully participate and thrive in school.

United Way’s support of our Head Start Primary Intervention Program enables preschoolers to receive play therapy, build positive social skills and benefit from one-on-one support in the classroom. United Way also supports our Readiness-to-Learn program, ensuring...

March Update

Posted by Elli Gull on March 31, 2014. 0 Comments

March has been a great month! Thank you to San Juan Island Family Resource Center, Lopez Children's Center, and Kaleidoscope preschool for their letters to the editor thanking United Way! See SJIFRC's letter here: United Way? It betters kids' lives. Lopez Children's Center and Kaleidoscope's letters will be published this week!

This month we switched internet service to Rock Island, which will save on operating costs for internet. This month we will implement Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) for our phone service. This will save a significant amount on telephone costs. We are always working to lower operating costs so more of your gift goes to the programs that need it.

All receipients of FEMA funds have received their payments. FEMA provides a small amount of funds for housing assistance to the three family resource centers in the county. Each of the resource centers (San Juan, Orcas and Lopez)...

February News

During February 2014, staff at United Way of San Juan County worked very hard on a new, updated website. This site has easier contribution options for donors, updated content, and will save the organization over 60% in merchant service fees. We are always exploring ways to lower overhead so more of your dollars go to the programs that need it.

Most of our supported programs returned their agreements and received their checks this month. We are happy to be able to fund twenty-nine programs this year! Please see the list of programs supported. We will also be uploading a few stories each month from our programs. These stories really illustrate how these programs help local children, families and those in need; and why the programs are so important!

In the coming months, we will be identifying strategies for collective impact with the community foundations on San Juan and...
